What’s Happening?
CQG Consulting, a regional Queensland environmental and planning specialist consultancy with an office in Mackay, has been acquired by Beca.
The deal brings CQG into Beca’s Australian business and gives Beca a broader regional footprint across Queensland. CQG is headquartered in Rockhampton, with offices in Mackay, Townsville, Gladstone and Brisbane.
CQG’s local teams will continue working with clients across the region. They will now be backed by Beca’s wider engineering, advisory and professional services business.
For Beca, the acquisition adds early-stage environmental advisory, planning and engagement capability. CQG’s team brings specialist skills in environmental science, ecology, GIS, stakeholder engagement, planning and approvals advisory.
The move also supports Beca’s growth plans in Australia, especially across water, energy and defence.
Why It Matters
The deal reflects the growing need for specialist planning and environmental advice close to major project areas.
Beca said regional Queensland was a deliberate part of its Australian growth plans. The company pointed to major industries and future opportunities across water, defence, energy and infrastructure.
Andrew Mailer, Managing Director, Australia, Beca, said the acquisition brings more Queensland expertise into the business.
“It brings talented Queenslanders into our business and allows us to offer greater diversity of expertise to CQG’s strong client base across regional Queensland,” said Andrew.
He said the connection between Beca and CQG would bring together wider technical capability and long-standing local relationships.
“The connection of Beca’s broad engineering and advisory capabilities in infrastructure, energy, industrial, defence and water, with the expertise and deep relationships that CQG’s people value, will increase our impact on communities in regional Queensland.
“Combined with recent organic growth, this takes Beca Australia past 1,000 people nationwide, a significant milestone that reflects our long-term commitment to growing our impact in Australia, particularly in regional areas.”
By the Numbers
- The transaction was completed on 1 June 2026, formally bringing CQG into Beca’s Australian business.
- More than 45 CQG specialists will join Beca, adding regional expertise across environmental and planning services.
- Beca Australia has now passed 1,000 people nationwide after the CQG acquisition and recent organic growth.
Local Impact
Mackay is part of CQG’s regional Queensland office network, alongside Townsville, Gladstone, Brisbane and its Rockhampton headquarters.
That matters because CQG’s work sits close to the kinds of industries and projects that shape regional Queensland. Its services include environmental assessments, ecology, First Nations and stakeholder engagement, and practical planning and advisory services.
The acquisition means CQG’s Mackay-linked clients will continue dealing with local teams. Those teams will now have access to Beca’s wider advisory, engineering, project and asset delivery services.
The deal also gives Beca stronger reach across regional Queensland, including areas connected to water, energy, defence, industrial, transport and infrastructure work.

Zoom In
CQG was established in 2003 and has spent 23 years building its regional Queensland client base.
Patrice Brown, Founder of CQG, said Beca was selected after several approaches from interested buyers over the past decade.
“We have been approached by several interested buyers over the last decade. Beca stood out as the best alignment for CQG’s staff and our clients, with values that resonate with the business we have built and fostered over the last 23 years,” Patrice said.
Patrice said CQG’s work has been shaped by its relationships with clients, First Nation groups and local communities.
“We have built our business on trusted relationships, outcome-focused advisory and a deep understanding of the needs of our clients, First Nation groups and communities throughout regional Queensland.
“Becoming part of Beca preserves what makes CQG special while expanding our ability to support clients with larger, more complex program over the long term.”
