What’s Happening?

Mackay students will present projects developed through the STEM Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills School Program at a local showcase on Friday, 30 October 2026.

The event will take place at Eimeo Road State School from 10 am to 1 pm.

Students will share what they have learned about advanced manufacturing and present potential solutions to industry challenges explored with manufacturing partners.

Why It Matters

The program introduces primary and secondary students to Queensland’s advanced manufacturing industry.

It supports skills development and raises awareness of manufacturing careers.

Through the program, students also learn about local manufacturing companies and investigate challenges faced by the industry.

Local Impact

Mackay is among eight Queensland locations hosting student showcases across October and November.

At the local event, participating students will present their chosen manufacturing problems and proposed solutions to an industry panel.

Senior secondary students will also have the opportunity to pitch their projects to a ‘shark tank’ panel.

By The Numbers

  • $7,500: Value of the learning package provided to participating schools.
  • 3 years: Subscription period for the Makers Empire 3D design software included in the package.
  • 8 cities: Queensland locations scheduled to host student showcases.

Zoom In

Makers Empire introduces students to design thinking through 3D design and 3D printing.

Participating schools received a learning package containing a 3D printer, filament, technical support and software access.

The package also includes industry immersion activities and opportunities to learn about future skills and careers.

Zoom Out

The Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills program is an initiative of Queensland’s Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development.

Queensland Manufacturing Hubs and Makers Empire deliver the program.

The student showcases form part of a statewide series celebrating participants’ work.

What To Look For Next?
