Funding available for Mackay’s Aussie Day events

What’s happening?

Mackay Regional Council has announced Australia Day event grants of up to $1000 to help not-for-profit groups celebrate Australia Day 2025.

Mayor Greg Williamson shared his excitement, saying, “We are really looking forward to a ripper Aussie Day event lineup in the new year.”

Why it Matters

After last year’s cancellations due to a cyclone, Mayor Williamson highlighted the importance of these events in bringing the community together:

“The events will run at various times throughout the day and are a celebration of the amazing region we call home.”

By the Numbers

– Up to $1000: Available in funding per event.

– Application Period: Opens on 1 November and closes at midnight on 24 November 2024.

– Post-event Requirements: Successful applicants will complete an Australia Day 2025 Grant Outcome Form, including event feedback, attendance, sponsor participation, and images, within two weeks of the event.

– Be free, open to the public, and held within the Mackay Regional Council area.

– Recognise Mackay Regional Council’s support in all promotional materials, such as posters, flyers, and social media, and on the day of the event.

Mayor Williamson also encouraged groups to get creative, offering examples like “a family fun day at a local park, an Aussie-themed morning tea with community awards, or an epic game of beach cricket!”

Successful applicants will be notified within two weeks of the application deadline and must complete a tax declaration by 5 pm on 4 December 2024 to ensure timely payment.
