Encouraging Female Participation in Sport and Recreation

Queensland Sport and Recreation’s Active Women and Girls program has unveiled a game-changing initiative, injecting $15 million to drive gender equality in sports and active recreation across the state.

This presents an exciting opportunity for Mackay’s sports clubs to pioneer change and foster inclusivity.

Program Focus

The initiative is a rallying call to amplify involvement across various domains, from active participation to coaching, volunteering, umpiring, and team leadership.

Its core aim is to empower women and girls, elevating their presence and impact within the sporting landscape. Clubs are encouraged to devise strategies leveraging funding for training, events, equipment, recognition, and purposeful programmes.

Boosting Mackay’s Sporting Landscape

This initiative aligns seamlessly with Mackay’s vibrant sports community, offering a chance to amplify female engagement and representation.

The program’s scope covers a broad spectrum, from enhancing resources and training for volunteers to creating more avenues for women and girls to actively engage within local clubs and organisations.

Key Dates and Eligibility

Applications kick off on November 20th, with a closing date of March 6, 2024.

Successful projects will be announced between December 2023 and May 2024, with project completion slated for June 2025.

The program caters to different entities: local clubs can access $7,500 (GST exclusive) under Category 1.

Local government authorities and state-level sport and active recreation organisations can apply for $25,000 (GST exclusive) under Category 2.
