What’s Happening?
Feros Care’s Belonging in Rainbows project is supporting Pride Month events across Mackay throughout June. The community-led program was co-designed with a local community group.
The program aims to strengthen inclusion, participation and connection. It also marks the return of Pride activities to Mackay.
Activities include workshops, presentations, community gatherings and creative celebrations. Each event provides welcoming spaces where people can meet, learn and take part.
Why It Matters?
The project supports acceptance, visibility and joy across Mackay’s LGBTIQA+SB community and beyond. It also places local voices at the centre of the program.
Belonging in Rainbows is not limited to one celebration. Its wider aim is to create lasting acceptance and a stronger sense of belonging.
Local Impact
The project is working with councils, advocacy groups, businesses and families on community-led activities. These partnerships help ensure local needs and experiences shape the program.
Businesses are also encouraged to display “WELCOME HERE” signs and support inclusion. This helps create safe and welcoming spaces across Mackay.
Schools and youth groups are receiving workshops and mentorship through the project. These activities aim to build confidence, leadership and belonging among young people.

Zoom In
Rainbow Revival will close the June program at Gooseponds Sport and Recreation Club in North Mackay.
The free event will bring live music, cabaret and art together in one community celebration. It will give adults a welcoming space to celebrate Pride Month and connect with others.
Zoom Out
Belonging in Rainbows links Pride Month activities with longer-term community goals. It brings schools, families, businesses and advocacy groups into the same local effort.
The focus extends beyond individual events. The project also supports greater understanding, visibility and acceptance throughout Mackay.
What To Look For Next?
Rainbow Revival is the next major event, bringing the June program together on Saturday, 20 June. Residents can also express interest in taking part in the wider project.
The local partnerships formed through Belonging in Rainbows may support more inclusive activities beyond June. That could help connection and belonging continue across Mackay.
