What’s Happening?

Queensland organisations planning community events for National Reconciliation Week 2027 can now apply for funding through the State Government’s Celebrating Reconciliation Grants Program.

The program is inviting applications for activities that encourage cultural understanding and stronger community connections. Applications close on 18 December 2026, giving organisations an opportunity to put forward their proposals for next year’s observance.

Why It Matters

The grants support community-led efforts to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Queenslanders.

By encouraging respect, inclusion and social cohesion, the program aims to help communities participate in reconciliation through meaningful activities.

Local Impact

Eligible organisations throughout Queensland can apply for support, provided they are based in the state and deliver their proposed events within Queensland.

By The Numbers

  • $100,000: Total funding available through the 2027 Celebrating Reconciliation Grants Program.
  • $2,500: Grant amount available per organisation for eligible events and activities.
  • 27 May to 3 June 2027: National Reconciliation Week, the period during which funded activities must be delivered.

Zoom In

Organisations can seek funding for several types of community activities, including yarning circles, storytelling events, workshops and community gatherings.

Other community-based and community-driven initiatives may also qualify if they meet the program’s objectives.

Zoom Out

National Reconciliation Week is observed annually across Australia, encouraging people to reflect on the country’s shared history and take meaningful action towards reconciliation.

The week begins on 27 May, marking the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, and concludes on 3 June with Mabo Day. This final date commemorates the landmark 1992 High Court Mabo decision.

What To Look For Next?

Organisations interested in participating can review the program’s eligibility requirements and application instructions through the Queensland Government’s Celebrating Reconciliation Grants website.
