What’s happening?
Hamilton Island Race Week tickets are now on sale, with the Whitsundays regatta returning from 15 to 22 August 2026.
The event, proudly presented by American Express, will bring offshore sailing, dining and entertainment back to Hamilton Island. The week remains centred on racing, but the 2026 program also gives visitors several ways to take part onshore.
The onshore events program includes dining events, guest talks, garden parties and spectator cruises. Highlights include a long lunch with Josh Niland and Khanh Ong at Niland’s Catseye Pool Club, along with In Conversation with Olympic silver medallist Olivia Price and America’s Cup sailor Cole Tapper at Bommie Restaurant.
The program also includes the Kylie Minogue Wines Garden Party, the Tanqueray Supper Club and the Race Day Long Lunch. Spectator cruises aboard Superyacht Rascal will give guests on-water views of racing around Dent Passage and the Whitsunday Islands.
On the water, the fleet brings together high-performance racing yachts, social sailors, first-time participants and international competitors.
Why it matters?
Hamilton Island Race Week is one of Australia’s major offshore sailing regattas, with a long place in the national sailing calendar. It also gives the Whitsundays a major annual tourism drawcard, combining sport, travel, food and entertainment across one week.
For the region, Race Week means more crews, spectators and holidaymakers on Hamilton Island during August. That visitor activity supports accommodation, restaurants, bars, tour operators, transfers and marine businesses.
Hamilton Island Chief Operating Officer Renae Trimble said the strong early response showed the event’s ongoing appeal.
“Hamilton Island Race Week continues to attract sailors, spectators and holidaymakers from across Australia and around the world.”
“With more than 170 boats already entered and tickets to the onshore program now on sale, we’re looking forward to welcoming competitors, spectators and holidaymakers back to Hamilton Island for another memorable Race Week this August.”
Trimble said Race Week also plays an important role in driving visitation and showcasing the Whitsundays.
“We’re delighted to welcome new and returning sponsors who will boost both the competitor and guest experience on and off the water. The 2026 program reflects everything that makes the event special: exceptional sailing, memorable dining experiences and the opportunity to experience the Whitsundays at their very best.”
Local Impact
The return of Race Week is expected to lift activity across Hamilton Island and the wider Whitsundays. Visitors can book event tickets, island experiences and accommodation through the official Race Week website, with stays ranging from Reef View Hotel to the luxury retreat qualia.
Hamilton Island also offers family-friendly apartments, the boutique hotel The Sundays, two island spas and a championship golf course on its own island. Visitors also have access to more than 20 restaurants and bars, plus more than 60 activities and experiences, including tours to Whitehaven Beach and Heart Reef.
New and returning sponsors will support the 2026 event without shifting the focus away from the racing. Volvo Cars joins as Official Automotive Partner, while Ahoy Club joins as Official Superyacht Partner. Kylie Minogue Wines and Saya Skincare are also part of the 2026 line-up.
Volvo Cars will display two flagship electric vehicle models within the Hamilton Island Marina precinct. The vehicles will also be used for guest transfers during the event.
Ahoy Club will provide Superyacht Rascal for the spectator cruises. The company works across yacht charter, yacht sales, management and refits.

Zoom In
The 2026 fleet shows the range of boats that continue to define Race Week. Large racing yachts will line up beside smaller boats, social sailing crews and first-time participants.
Wild Thing 100 is among the headline entries. The 100-foot maxi yacht is co-owned by Grant Wharington and Adrian Seiffert. At the smaller end of the fleet, Aquila will compete as a 6.9-metre Sonata 7.
International competition will also be part of the 2026 regatta, with Hong Kong yachtsman Karl Kwok bringing Beau Ideal to the Super 40 division.
The onshore program gives non-sailing guests clear reasons to attend as well. Dining, wine events, guest speakers and spectator cruises will run across the week, adding to the island’s appeal beyond the racing.
Naysla Edwards, Vice President of Brand, Marketing and Member Experience for American Express, said the event brought several parts of the island experience together.
“Hamilton Island Race Week combines sailing, travel, dining and entertainment in a way few Australian events can. We’re proud to return as Presenting Partner of Hamilton Island Race Week and look forward to creating memorable experiences for our Card Members throughout the week.”
Zoom Out
Hamilton Island Race Week sits within the island’s wider annual events calendar, which includes the Hamilton Island Endurance Series and Pas de Deux in Paradise. The ballet event is a bi-ennial collaboration with The Australian Ballet at Pebble Beach, qualia.
The island continues to position itself as a Great Barrier Reef destination for sailing, major events and holidays. Hamilton Island is also accessible by direct flights from major east coast cities in under three hours.
Race Week connects Hamilton Island with national and international sailing audiences. In past editions, the regatta has attracted more than 200 yachts and crews from Australia and overseas.
The 2026 sponsor line-up shows how the event has grown beyond racing. It now spans sailing, dining, travel, marine experiences and island hospitality, while the regatta remains the centre of the week.
American Express returns as Presenting Partner for 2026. Volvo Cars brings its focus on safety, performance and electric motoring to the event, while Ahoy Club adds a superyacht element through spectator cruises aboard Rascal.
What To Look For Next?
Tickets, onshore events and accommodation packages are now available through Hamilton Island Race Week.
The next stage will be finalising bookings across Race Week events, spectator cruises and island accommodation. More fleet updates are also expected as the August regatta approaches.
With early entries already strong, Hamilton Island is preparing for another busy Race Week across the water and onshore.
