Why it matters?
The BMA Mackay Marina Run is Tropical North Queensland’s largest running event.
This year’s strong registration numbers show growing demand for the Mackay event.
Event Director Tim Magoffin said the 2026 run has attracted its strongest field yet.
“We’re welcoming some of Australia’s top elite runners this year, including Liam Boudin, Tim Vincent, Genevieve and Ryan Gregson and Eloise Wellings,” Mr Magoffin said.
“We’re also seeing our biggest-ever international contingent, with runners travelling from the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Italy, France, Malaysia and New Zealand to be part of the event.”
Local Impact
Nearly 5,000 runners from Australia and overseas are expected to take part this June.
That turnout is set to bring a major economic boost to Mackay and the wider region.
The event also continues its long-running support for the Leukaemia Foundation.
For 18 years, the BMA Mackay Marina Run has raised funds for the foundation. The money has supported local services and programs.
By the numbers
The event’s record demand is clear across registrations, fundraising and race capacity.
- The half-marathon is already at 96 per cent capacity, making it the closest event to selling out.
- The 10-kilometre and 5-kilometre events are currently 85 per cent sold, with strong demand still building.
- The event has raised more than $760,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation, with organisers aiming to pass $1 million in 2026.
Zoom In
The half-marathon and 10-kilometre events are the main focus for runners still planning to register.
With the half-marathon almost full, remaining places are expected to move quickly.
The 2026 field also includes elite Australian runners and the event’s biggest international group to date.
Zoom Out
The Mackay Marina Run has grown into a major running event with national and international reach.
Its mix of elite competitors, everyday runners, corporate teams and children’s events has helped broaden its appeal.
The event also links sport with fundraising, keeping the Leukaemia Foundation at the centre of its purpose.
