What’s Happening?
The Salvation Army in Mackay is calling for community support for the 61st Red Shield Appeal, launching locally this May. The national campaign aims to raise $38 million through Australia’s largest door-knock appeal, with Mackay funds staying local to support people experiencing hardship.
Why It Matters?
Many families in Mackay continue to struggle with the rising cost of living, housing stress, and financial insecurity. The Salvos offer vital support—but they need community donations and volunteers to continue this critical work.
Local Impact
Rendle Williams from The Salvation Army in Mackay shared, “The last few years have been incredibly tough for the hardest hit in our community, and for many that shows no sign of slowing down. We see so many people grappling with increased stress and uncertainty as everyday living has become unaffordable, leading to housing stress, financial hardship and an inability to get by.”
He added, “There is no better way to support your community than by donating or volunteering to the Red Shield Appeal this year, and we need you to partner with us to be the hope our community so desperately needs. We can’t do our work in the community without you.”
The money raised in Mackay stays in the region and directly helps people facing hardship—from homelessness and financial stress to family violence and youth support.
