What’s Happening?
The Capricornian Bank has opened its first Mackay branch at Caneland Central, expanding its presence across regional Queensland.
It has opened beside Westfund Health Insurance at Shop 2047 on the ground floor, next to Just Jeans.
The shared location brings health and financial services together in one convenient destination for the Mackay community.
Westfund has also relocated its Care Centre and Eye Care services into a refreshed space beside the new bank branch.
Why It Matters
The opening gives Mackay customers direct access to a Queensland-based, customer-owned bank with more than 65 years of regional experience.
Chief Customer Officer Justin Stewart said the Mackay branch reflected the bank’s commitment to becoming part of the communities it serves.
“Mackay is a strong and growing regional community, and we’re incredibly pleased to be opening our doors and becoming a permanent part of it,” Mr Stewart said.
He said the new branch would give customers more opportunities to speak directly with local staff about their banking needs.
“As a customer-owned bank, our focus has always been on people and the communities we serve. Opening in Mackay allows us to bring that approach to more Queenslanders while continuing to invest in face-to-face banking services across regional areas.” We want our Mackay branch to be somewhere customers feel comfortable coming in, having a conversation and speaking with a team that understands everyone’s banking needs are different.”
By The Numbers
- Nine branches now make up The Capricornian Bank’s network, with Mackay becoming its first location in the region.
- More than 30 years of combined finance experience sits within the local Mackay banking team.
- More than 145 years of service stands behind Westfund Health Insurance, a not-for-profit and 100 per cent member-owned health fund.

Local Impact
The Capricornian Bank’s local team can assist customers with everyday banking, savings, home loans, personal lending, insurance and other services.
Mr Stewart said the bank also wanted to build strong relationships with local businesses and community organisations.
“We’ve been looking forward to becoming part of the Mackay community and building genuine, long-term relationships with other customers, local businesses and community organisations,” Mr Stewart said.
He said the team had already met many locals before opening day.
“Our team has already had the opportunity to meet many people throughout Mackay in the lead-up to the opening, and the response has been incredibly welcoming.”
Westfund’s move adds health and eye care services beside the new branch, with members now using a refreshed local space.
Its Eye Care service also includes new optical equipment, while the existing Mackay team continues serving members.
Zoom In
The Capricornian Bank and Westfund Health Insurance celebrated the opening at Caneland Central on Tuesday, 6 October.
The evening gave visitors another chance to tour the branch and learn more about the services available.
“Now, we’re looking forward to opening the doors, welcoming people into the branch and showing Mackay what customer-owned banking is all about,” Mr Stewart said.
Zoom Out
The Caneland Central opening adds two member-owned organisations to the same local service hub.
The Capricornian Bank brings more than 65 years of regional banking experience, while Westfund has supported Australians for more than 145 years.
For Mackay, their shared location means banking, health insurance and eye care services are now available side by side.
What To Look For Next?
With both organisations now operating side by side, the Caneland Central location is positioned to serve more local banking and health needs.
