Planet Fitness is opening its first Mackay club at the Northpoint Homemaker Centre, taking over the former Rebel Sport site at 8-10 Windmill Crossing, Mount Pleasant.
The global gym operator has signed a 10 year lease and is now completing its fitout. The plan is to open in late December.
Founded in the United States, Planet Fitness began its Australian expansion six years ago under a franchise deal with Bravo Fit Holdings.
Why it matters?
This opening adds a major player to Mackay’s fitness scene and gives locals another option with a low cost model. It also strengthens activity at Northpoint Homemaker Centre, a key retail hub in the northern suburbs.
The move reflects the chain’s wider growth in Queensland after its first state site opened at Morayfield in 2020.
Local impact
The new club boosts local access to 24,7 fitness while supporting activity at a busy commercial centre. With 358 parking spaces onsite, the centre is set up to manage increased foot traffic once the gym opens.

The Mackay club will offer an expanded strength area with plate loaded gear like half racks, hack squat, glute lift and calf machines. Members can also use full upper and lower body machines, cardio options and functional zones.
The Black Card Spa will add wellness extras including HydroMassage beds, CryoLounge, Massage Chairs, weekly Spray Tans and Red Light Technology booths.
Membership starts from $7 a week, with a $0 join fee available before opening.
