What’s happening?

The Play On! Sports Vouchers program has helped thousands of children across Mackay and the Whitsundays join organised sport.

Applications for the latest round opened on Monday, 27 July, giving families another opportunity to seek support.

Why it matters?

By reducing membership fees and participation costs, the vouchers help families keep children active through organised sport.

The first-year results also show stronger participation by girls and wider support for children with disability.

Local Impact

Rugby league, soccer and netball were the most popular sports among voucher recipients in Mackay and the Whitsundays.

The region also has a strong network of participating clubs, including many that provide disability programs.

By the numbers

  • More than 9,368 Mackay and Whitsundays children received vouchers during the program’s first year.
  • Across the region, 141 sporting clubs accept the vouchers, while 101 clubs offer disability programs.
  • Statewide, 129,050 girls benefited from the program as participation among girls increased by 30%.

The Mackay and Whitsundays results form part of a statewide program helping Queensland children participate in organised sport.

Its first-year results also show how financial support can help clubs include more girls and children with disability.

What To Look For Next?

With applications now open, more local children may be able to join a club or continue playing their chosen sport.

Families can check eligibility, find approved providers and apply through the Queensland Government website.
