What’s Happening?
Four of Australia’s toughest young bull riders — three of them from Queensland — have been officially drafted into the 2025 Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Teams Series in the United States. It’s a career-defining moment that catapults them from national champions to international contenders.
The riders selected in this year’s New Rider Draft include:
-
Macaulie Leather, 24, from Calliope, QLD – 2023 PBR Australia Champion – drafted to the Texas Rattlers
-
Boston Leather, 19, also from Calliope, QLD – 2024 PBR Australia Champion and Rookie of the Year – drafted to Missouri Thunder
-
Thomas Triplett, 19, from Bungundarra, QLD – top scorer at PBR Origin I in Newcastle – drafted to Oklahoma Wildcatters
-
Jack Brodrick, 22, from Bungendore, NSW – current #1 ranked rider in Australia after Q1 – also drafted to Oklahoma Wildcatters
All four will now compete against the best in the world as part of PBR’s elite 12-team league across the United States — a series known for its explosive format and massive stadium crowds.
Why It Matters
This is more than just a sporting victory — it signals a new era for Australian bull riding on the world stage. The four riders now join an exclusive international cohort in the USA, where PBR is recognised as one of the most competitive and physically demanding sports on the planet.
“Brady has shown that our Aussie riders are truly world class,” said PBR Australia’s Glen Young.
“We’re incredibly proud of the talent coming out of PBR Australia. The structure, training and events here prepare our athletes for the biggest stage – and this Draft proves just that. These boys are headed into battle, but they’re ready. And they’re going to fly the Aussie flag high.”
Their selection proves that the Australian bull riding circuit isn’t just thriving — it’s becoming a globally respected talent pipeline.
Local Impact
For Queensland, and especially for regional towns like Calliope and Bungundarra, this news hits home. The success of riders like Macaulie and Boston Leather, and Thomas Triplett, has ignited local pride — and interest — in the sport.
This draft puts Queensland firmly on the map as a breeding ground for elite riders, with training programs and events across the state clearly preparing competitors to take on the world.
Even more inspiring? These young athletes are proving that you don’t need to come from a major city to reach global heights. Their achievements show what’s possible with grit, skill and the right support.

Zoom In
This latest Draft follows a breakout campaign by Queensland’s Brady Fielder, who’s already become a staple with the Texas Rattlers in the USA. Fielder made headlines after securing a Top 10 individual finish at the 2025 PBR World Finals and earning the Lane Frost/Brent Thurman Award for the highest-scoring ride of the competition.
His success has helped pave the way for the next wave of Aussie talent, including the four newest draftees.
Zoom Out
PBR Australia’s growing international reach is no accident. Backed by global sports and media company Endeavor, the organisation has ramped up its training programs, tours, and talent development initiatives, such as the Can-Am Junior Academy and Touring Pro Division.
“We’re building pathways,” said Young. “From regional events to the Grand Finals and now to the world’s toughest bull riding league — that’s the system working.”
With more international scouts paying attention to PBR Australia events, the trend of Aussie draftees is expected to continue.
